Historical background

Olivet (probably a reference to the Mount of Olives) was only a hamlet of Saint-Martin-sur-Loiret or Saint-Martin-d'Olivet, but finished by imposing itself on the original town because it was located on the old road which linked Orléans to Limoges and then from the 13th century onwards the Orleans to Bourges road passing through La Ferté-St-Aubin. In the 17th century well-to-do families from Orléans began building their country homes there.

Olivet, a pleasant place to stop off while travelling in the Loire Valley

well-being at Olivet

Olivet, a pleasant place to stop off while travelling in the Loire Valley For the visitor, Olivet, is first and foremost the peaceful and romantic river Loiret, renown for its springs, a resurgence of the Loire river, its slow majestic swans, its old water mills, vestiges of times past when the lower part of the river belonged to religious orders with wonderful walks along the shaded paths of its banks.

Olivet also stands for flowers. The flower clock made of 5,000 flowers, a few steps from the bridge, the wide fields of roses, all are a testimony to its beauty.

Olivet: harvest time once more in the orchards, thousands of cherries to delight the taste buds of many. Home also to a vineyard with eight-hundred year old vines which give us delicious Cabernet wine.

Olivet, a doorway to the Sologne region and Loire Valley castles, is a charming place. The perfect spot for relaxing and quiet with lots of sporting activities just a stone's throw away, such as swimming, tennis, ping-pong, rowing, horse-riding and fishing in the Loiret. A recently refurbished camping ground is also in proximity.

Furthermore Olivet is a place for fine and comfortable hotels with restaurants able to satisfy the most discerning palate, not forgetting an energetic and modern shopping centre capable of meeting your every need.
